HOUSTON, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Newfield Exploration Company (NYSE: NFX) today announced that three additional members were appointed to the Company's board of directors. The appointments were made at Newfield's board meeting earlier today. Prior to the appointments, the size of Newfield's board was increased from 11 members to 14. With the addition of these members, 11 of Newfield's 14 directors are independent as defined under New York Stock Exchange guidelines.
The new members are:
J. Michael Lacey
Lacey is the former Senior Vice President - Exploration and Production for Devon Energy Corporation. Throughout his 15 years with Devon he directed the company's worldwide exploration and production effort and was also a member of Devon's Executive Committee. He retired from Devon in February 2004.
Prior to joining Devon in 1989, Lacey was General Manager for Tenneco Oil Company in both their Mid-Continent and Rocky Mountain divisions. He joined Tenneco in 1969 working in a number of diverse leadership roles. Lacey is an active member in numerous professional organizations, including the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Lacey holds both graduate and undergraduate degrees in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
Lacey was appointed to the Compensation & Management Development and International Advisory Committees.
Joseph H. Netherland
Netherland is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of FMC Technologies. He was elected President and CEO and a Director of FMC Technologies in February 2001 and Chairman in December 2001. Netherland joined FMC in 1973 and has served in management positions throughout the organization.
Netherland is former Chairman and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Petroleum Equipment Suppliers Association and the American Petroleum Institute. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Department of Engineering at Texas A&M University. Netherland holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Netherland was appointed to the Compensation & Management Development and Nominating & Corporate Governance Committees.
J. Terry Strange
Strange retired from KPMG, LLP after a 34-year career. At the time of his retirement in 2002, he was Vice Chair of KPMG and was responsible for the global and U.S. audit business. He served on KPMG's International Executive Team from 2000-02 and on the U.S. Management Committee from 1992-2002.
Strange serves on the Boards of Compass Bancshares, Inc., New Jersey Resources Inc., BearingPoint, Inc. and Group One Automotive, Inc. Strange holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and a M.B.A. from the University of North Texas.
Strange was appointed to the Audit and Nominating & Corporate Governance Committees.
