HOUSTON, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Newfield Exploration Company (NYSE: NFX) announced the receipt of the 1997 National Safety Award for Excellence from the U.S. Department of Interior's Minerals Management Service (MMS) in the category of "Independent or Small Operator" for the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf. Newfield was nominated for the award as a result of receiving the MMS District SAFE Award for the Houma, Louisiana production district.
